This past week has been a combination of destruction and construction in our master suite. But I'll have to say, it is mostly destruction! 'Course that's to be expected in the early days of a project like this.
The shower is now gone, as is most of the framing on the wall between the bath and bedroom. The tile floor is gone as well. And yes, you can see where the shower managed to leak over the years on the floor. This dark area is the whole reason that we started this endeavor!
The mirrors and the countertop/sinks are gone. In their place are the rough-ins for the new electrical as well as the new soffits. These soffits will be covered in sheetrock and painted. They will create an arched area over each sink. And in the corner and on each end, there will be glass front and side cabinets from the soffit to the countertop.
I can see in my mind how all of this will look and am very excited about it! Unfortunately, we are still a few weeks away from the finished product. sigh.
Cheers!

Moving Stuff
So let's ponder this...... when you decide to remodel the master bath, bedroom, and closet -- all at the same time -- what is the first thing you get to do? Anyone, anyone?
Let me save you some brain power..... you get to clean out all (and I mean ALL) of the crap that you've accumulated in those three rooms over the last 17 years. ACK!!!
In our case, that meant moving a bunch of the stuff to the basement bedrooms, where we'll be living for the next 6 or so weeks. For those of you that know our house, you know that meant multiple trips up and down 3 flights of stairs to get this accomplished. Yep, you are right, we didn't have to go to the gym on that day! <grin>
But for all the furniture and stuff we don't need over the next 6 weeks, it meant cramming it into the upstairs guest bedroom and bathroom. My thought on that day was..... how in the hell can two people accumulate so much stuff?!?!?
So this is what our guest room looks like right at the moment. I'm just hoping that I really don't need to get to the stuff waaay back in the corner!
So if you were planning to come stay with us in the next month or so, I hope that you don't mind sleeping on the floor in the parlor 'cause that's about the only space we seem to have left for guests! sigh.
I keep telling myself that all of this is gonna be worth it in the end. But good grief, the end seems so very far away just now!
Cheers!

The Remodeling Begins!
Our contractor started the remodeling project on Thursday, with a little bit of demolition. So I thought that I should post some "before" pics of our master suite.
This one takes a look from the entry door to the bedroom.
And these two pics are looking from the bedroom into the bathroom.
So what the heck are we doing? Well, the main purpose of this remodel is to fix the bathroom. As you can see, it is getting pretty dated. So along the way, we are getting a new shower, toilet, countertops/sinks, and floor in there. The shower will get a bit larger. Nice! The tub stays. You know, the new ones that they offer are too expensive, and frankly, don't look as nice as the one we've got! The cabinets stay, 'cause they are really nice, but in addition to the new countertop/sink, we'll also get some matching cabinets mounted on top of the existing cabinets. I think that it is going to look very classy! And of course, there will be new lighting as well as new fixtures.
In the bedroom and closet, we are getting new flooring and paint. Yep, we are the designated painters. So we'll be working around the contractors schedule.
Anyway, the plan is that in 6 weeks or so, we'll be able to move back into our newly renovated bedroom and bath. Can't wait!
Cheers!
